Meet Micro and Techno.  Born the last week of April, they're roughly 3 weeks old in the pictures.  They are Roborovsky Dwarf Hamsters.    I don't know which one Micro or Techno is, but Micro is going to be the smaller one.  I think they are both boys but it's still difficult to tell.  They're parents were about 3 inches full grown.  These should be the same.  I got them from T and C Hamstery in Lancaster, PA, thanks Tim and Chris!  And thanks to Andy and Emily for picking them up from Lancaster on the way home from NJ.  You won't find these hammies just anywhere, only at a few places around the states.  They're popular in Singapore, the UK and some other places.

The Roborovski or Desert hamster Phodopus roborovskii as it is sometimes known originates from China, Mongolia and Russia where they will inhabit semi-arid areas with little vegetation. They will construct burrows some 2-6 feet beneath the sand.

In some respects it is similar to the Russian dwarfs P. sungorus and P. campbelli for example it's shape and proportions although being smaller at only 2 inches (5.1cm). They lack the dorsal stripe of the Russian dwarfs.

The first specimen was captured during the Roborovsky and Kozlov expedition (which is also their namesake) in July of 1894.

These hamsters are rather uncommon in the UK but are becoming increasingly popular in pet shops.

You can expect your hamsters to live for around 2-3 years. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jean.wright3/rh/rh.htm)
